The Jefferson County Health Department provides Women's Health Services to
women without regard to race, income, residence, age or religion. Regular Pap
tests and breast exams are recommended for early detection of cancer and other
abnormalities, and are needed to receive prescription contraceptives. Females
are advised to begin these screenings at age 21 or earlier if they are sexually
active. All services are confidential.
This service is provided in two parts with two visits to the health department.
The first visit is called the "Work-Up". It is completed with a registered
nurse and includes history taking, education and lab testing. The second visit,
referred to as the "Pap Appointment", is completed by a nurse practitioner or
physician and includes the Pap test, breast exam and Sexually Transmitted
Disease testing if indicated. Contraceptives may be prescribed and dispensed at
this time, if desired. |
